MAIN FEATURES
Two account types: customer and merchant
Easy login process
for customer:
only name and phone
Customers transfer real fiat money from one country to another
Customers can add bank cards for quick transfers
Customer transfer flow takes only 5 steps
Merchant flow is even shorter
Problem
Money transfers are becoming more and more popular all over the world. Some people tend to work remotely, other relocate for political and personal reasons. In 2022 only more than 5 M refugees came to Europe from Ukraine, and about 1 M left Russia and settled in different countries. Everyone needs to transfer money worldwide. One of the most cheap ways is via cryptocurrencies, but only few percent have knowledge and experience to send money that way.
Swap offers simple way of P2P transactions: our user only have to choose ‘from’ bank, ‘to’ bank and amount of money. Every other operation is done inside the system.
Reframing the problem
Build the service that is not connected directly to cryptocurrencies and/or P2P process. Focus on the customers that avoid crypto theme and arrange the flows within their familiar fields of knowledge and navigation patterns.
Discovery
During the Discovery stage I've made a lot of user research. With the help of expats community Peredelano, I gathered about 30 people who recently had moved to another countries and wanted to send money abroad but didn't have experience with cryptocurrencies. It helped a lot not only with base UX research but also later in Explore and Test stages.
I know there are multiple ways to have a cryptowallet, but there are so much technology about it, I'm afraid I would be lost in it…
Typical answer of my interviewee during the base UX research
Stakeholders interviews were another great source of insights. We discussed all major topics and minor corner cases, declared our project's roadmap for the team and outlined MVP features for investor's pitching.
Insights
People are interested in our project: 98% told that they would definitely try the app.
The easier the app would be, the more people will get involved with it.
Announced throughout the expats communities, our app will grow the first and the most crucial audience of customers and merchants.
Latest news from P2P world (e.g. Russian citizens were prohibited in major cryptohubs like Binance) stimulated the interest to the projects even more.
Prototyping and mapping
To test the feasibility of our early ideas and concepts, we developed a set of prototypes and maps which we shared with experts to gather their feedback, capturing both their enthusiasm and concern.
Explore: mapping the customer's journey
Alongside with prototypes I started to work on the design system with components and variables. During interviews I received several leads about cryptowallet's typical interfaces: all dark and techsavvy-look-like, that sometimes frightened non-IT people. Later my initial guess was confirmed: more common whiter interfaces were winning the race with dark ones. But only with our 'customers' group. Vice versa my 'experts' and 'merchants' groups were more acquainted with darker screens.
Based on these findings (as well as direct requests!) I have decided to create separate visual interfaces for customers and merchants. Here I used the power of Figma's variables in my design system (it was the time when this feature was only released in mid 2023) and it was terrific and very useful.

User flows
This method was also very useful to brainstorm the ideas and build the prototypes for user testing. We were drawing it together with PM and CEO in several sessions

This is an ongoing project, so updates will come soon
